  What to Practice

The way to practice Tai Chi Chuan

Principles

Tai Chi Chuan is an exercise for the whole body, and it trains both the mind and the body. The five pieces of the lumbar region of the back and the pelvic girdle are of primary importance, for they lead the movement of the four limbs. In practicing Tai Chi Chuan when one part moves, all the other parts also move, with the upper and lower limbs following accordingly. However, many learners often tend to divide the body into three parts: the arms, the torso and the legs. The result is that each part moves on its own, without any connection with the other parts. In this regard, I would like to stress a few points which I hope learners will keep in  mind.

Correct alignment of spine
Release small of the back & pelvic girdle
Feel the pressure of shifting
Coordinate arms & legs
Never compromise alignment
No stiff, tense muscles
Evenness
